The Gila Monster
By Ryan Schildcrout
The gila monster is a very interesting animal. It is a black lizard with orange, yellow, or pink spots. It has a very immense tail used to store fat. The gila monster has a lifespan of 20 to 30 years. It also grows to 2 and a half feet long.
The gila monster is a carnivore and consumes on quail eggs, owls, small birds, and other small lizards.
Now, you have probably heard that there are no venomous lizards. But, the gila monster is 1 of the 2 exceptions. (At least in the U.S.A.) The gila monster and the beaded lizard are the 2 exceptions.

Humans are affecting the gila monster's habitat by hunting its prey. To stop this, there should be hunting restrictions in those areas.
In the southern U.S.A. and northern Mexico, the climate where the gila monster lives, is hot and dry. It gets less then 20 inches of rain a year. The low and high temperatures are 20 degrees F ( low ) and 100 degrees F ( high ). The most severe weather in that area is sandstorms.
Thank you for listening to my science project!
